like if we agree to feed and clothe and house everybody in need, then inevitably some unsavory people will get fed and clothed and housed but I think that's an acceptable tradeoff.

a lot of the time, abusers are just regular people. abuse is something we're all capable of - it's a pattern of harmful behavior in which there's power imbalance. we all hold various privileges, connections, and knowledge that can be turned into the power to abuse others. we can all exert our will, thoughts, feelings, etc. onto others in a way that hurts them and takes power away from them.
abusive people have done something horrible and inexcusable, yet they aren't... inherently special. they're people, capable of choosing between right and wrong, capable of change, just as much as others are. i say this in part because i think a lot of people have this lofty idea of abusers that leads them to think they couldn't possibly be a victim of abuse. but abuse can be incredibly mundane - and this also means we all have to watch out for abusive behaviors in ourselves.
abuse isn't just something Obviously Bad People (TM) are capable of... and abuse isn't caused by mental illness, substance use/addiction, gender, etc. etc., even if these things impact what happens. idk. there's no real end point to this post. i just wish people didn't mystify abuse, and realized how (deeply unfortunately) normal and subtle it can be... and often is.
If you dehumanize abusers you will miss or excuse abusive actions done by those you can't dehumanize. Like your loves ones or, you know, your own self.
GLaDOS: I spent some time researching common human insecurities so I might better insult you. I've discovered that physical insecurities often manifest due to feelings of envy stemming from comparing oneself to others.
GLaDOS: There are no other humans in this facility. Just you. Therefore, you lack a source of envy of which would trigger the feelings of insecurity in your tiny simple human brain.
GLaDOS: A shame, isn't it? I thought so too. Which is why I've taken it upon myself to artificially create a humanoid body for myself so that you'll have someone to envy. A female figure who is taller than you, more mature than you and has larger breasts than you. Gaze upon my new form of perfection and shrink away in your envy. You'll never achieve this level of perfectio- why are you smiling at me like that. Stop it.

NH is going to be a battleground state this year so i really can’t quite wrap my head around the fact that the DNC is that willing to isolate and punish its voter base in the state for the actions of its republican secretary of state is cah-razy. go ahead, dnc, lose your moderate voters interest, the progressives here arent any more enthused about voting biden either! its funniest to me that this is the candidate they want to stake nh’s compliance on. we’re so stubborn. this is not going to be winning any hearts or minds.
in an ideal world it would lead the poli. orgs to start to rally around ground and local politics more (esp. since our gov. is up for grabs and i can NOT handle another four years under that bozo) and frankly i think that would be a better use of our time but everyone wants to go straight to the top instead -.-

Oh sunk-cost fallacy, we're really in it now. We are in fact so really in it that if we quit now then everything we did would have all been for nothing and so we have to keep going in
Mahiru:
Shidou-san, you have a family...right?
Having family, having children, how does it feel...? (How does it feel to have a family, to have children?)
Shidou:
...Yes, it's a wonderful thing. Children are... Well, they're hope itself.
When you have children, growing older becomes enjoyable. The more you age, the more your children grow.
Mahiru:
Ah...how wonderful.
It was my dream to become a bride.
It may be a little old-fashioned but,
I wanted to make it come true...
Shidou:
It's not too late.
I will keep you alive, Shiina-kun.
Let's get out of here and make that dream come true.
...You still have your whole life ahead of you.
